Indian immigrant loses 43 years of his life in US

The year was 1982. Indian-American Subramaniam Vedam was arrested for the murder of his friend Thomas Kinser.

Bedam was 20 years old at the time he was arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement-ICE.

Then 43 years passed one by one. After a long period of imprisonment, the court acquitted Vedam in the murder case last year.

NDTV News reported that two different court authorities recently stayed the order to deport Vedam from the US due to evidence of his innocence.

The newspaper reported that on Thursday, an immigration judge stayed the deportation order against Bedam pending a decision from the Bureau of Immigration. On the same day, a Pennsylvania State District Court ruled in favor of lifting the deportation order.

Come on, hurry up and get out.

Ice authorities said there is another charge against Bedam for involvement in drug supply.

He has also denied the accusation of being involved in drug supply at the age of 20.

Bedam’s lawyer said that Bedam earned his own degree and educated other prisoners after spending more than 40 years in prison. His behavior should be given more importance than the drug case.

In such a situation, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said that the exemption from the murder case would not be helpful in withdrawing the drug case.

Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin said in an email that the withdrawal of a case will not prevent ICE from enforcing immigration laws.

Vedam migrated to America from India with her parents when she was just 9 months old. The family is spending their days hoping for her release.
