Two Australian female cricketers accused of sexual assault in India

A man has been accused of stalking and molesting two Australian women cricketers in India. The women cricketers were attacked on their way back from a cafe on Indore’s Ring Road on Thursday morning.

The Times of India, quoting a police officer, said the accused has been identified as Aqeel Khan. Police arrested the accused on the basis of the registration number of the suspect’s motorcycle with the help of a passerby.

“We received a complaint from the Australian security team that the two players were subjected to indecent behaviour while returning to the hotel from a cafe. A case was registered on Thursday night and the accused was arrested through a tactical operation,” said Rajesh Dandotia, Additional DCP, Crime Branch, Indore.

The players were staying at the Radisson Blu Hotel with their teammates as part of the Australian women’s team participating in the ICC Women’s World Cup.

The team’s security manager Danny Simmons filed a complaint at the MIG police station on Thursday evening. Police officials said the accused has been identified after examining CCTV footage from the area.

The Australian team has been in Indore since October 17 ahead of the World Cup.
