Shutdown: The conditions that Democrats want for the government to function

Democrats will support a proposal to end the shutdown and resume normal government operations on the condition that Obamacare subsidies be maintained for the next year.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer made this announcement on Friday.

On the Senate floor, he also said that they are ready to vote in favor of quickly resuming government operations. For this, the bill must include the issue of tax exemption for health insurance.

In such a situation, Republican senators say that the Democrats’ proposal is unacceptable. The next steps in the Senate to break the deadlock, almost 40 days into the shutdown, are still uncertain.

A Republican bill that would have kept federal workers on payroll despite the government shutdown was scheduled to be voted on Friday night, but Democrats quickly blocked the bill earlier in the day, raising tensions between the two parties.

Senate Democrats have offered a new compromise proposal to end the government shutdown. On Friday, they proposed reopening the government on the condition that the health insurance tax be maintained for a year.

According to Chuck Schumer, their proposal would help quickly end the government shutdown and provide financial support to the country’s working families to ensure healthcare.

The Senate Minority Leader believes that it is now entirely up to Republicans to break the government’s deadlock at the negotiating table. Democratic senators call this a straightforward condition.

Senator Elizabeth Warren said hundreds of millions of people in the country are counting on Democrats to force President Trump to reduce healthcare costs.

He also said that they would not back down from this proposal, but the Republicans immediately rejected the Democrats’ proposal.

According to them, it is a stalemate created by the Democrats.

According to Senator Ron Johnson, Democrats are playing political games with the people of the country and working families, but the majority Republicans say that is unacceptable.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said, “This is absolutely unacceptable. It’s not up for discussion.”

At that time, he expressed disappointment with the Democrats.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has asked the Senate to continue its session until the government shutdown is resolved.
