Seats Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman are contesting

BNP has announced the names of its potential candidates for 237 seats ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections.

According to the announced list, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will contest from three seats, while the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman will contest from one seat.

Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir officially announced the names of the candidates at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Monday.

According to the published list, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will contest from Feni-1, Bogra-7 and Dinajpur-3 constituencies.

The party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, is running for the Bogra-6 constituency.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will contest from Thakurgaon-1 constituency.

At the press conference, Mirza Fakhrul said that the list of seats for which candidates have not been announced will be published later. Some seats have also been reserved for alliance partners.

He said, “Changes can also be made to the declared seats if necessary, according to the party’s decision.”

Earlier, a meeting of the BNP National Standing Committee was held at the Chairperson’s office in Gulshan at around 12:30 pm.

The meeting was chaired by the party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, who joined the meeting via video conference from London.

The meeting, which lasted for about five hours, discussed in detail the upcoming national parliamentary elections, finalizing candidates, and the party’s position in the current political situation.

BNP standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Abdul Moin Khan, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Selima Rahman, Nazrul Islam Khan, AZM Zahid Hossain, Mirza Abbas and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, along with the party’s organizing secretaries and central leaders, were present at the press conference.

The Election Commission has announced that the election schedule will be announced in the first week of December this year and the voting will take place in the first half of February.
