Indian cricket team vice-captain Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious rib injury while taking a catch from Alex Carr during a match against Australia in Sydney. He was immediately taken to the hospital.
The Indian Cricket Board is yet to confirm Shreyas Iyer’s condition, but news agency PTI reported that he is admitted to the ICU.
A source told news agency PTI that Shreyas has been in the ICU for the past few days. Reports have shown that he is suffering from internal bleeding. So no risk has been taken.
The source also said that Shreyas will remain in the ICU for the time being. He may be kept under observation for two to seven days. Doctors are monitoring the bleeding to ensure that it does not become infected.
After getting injured while taking a career-high catch, Shreyas received treatment on the field for some time. After that, the cricketer walked back to the dressing room. However, some physical problems arose after that.
As a result, the board’s medical team did not take any risks. Sources said that the team doctor and physio did not want to waste time. Shreyas was immediately taken to the hospital. If there was a delay, the risk would have increased. The vice-captain’s injury was very serious.
However, it will take time to recover as there is a lot of bleeding from the injury site. It is also uncertain when he will be able to return to the field.
The India-Australia T20 series is ahead. Shreyas, the vice-captain of the ODI team, has not been included in the T20 team. However, for now, he will have to stay in the Sydney hospital for seven days.
After that, he can return to the country. Maybe he will be brought back with the Indian T20 team. For now, the doctors are focusing on stopping Shreyas’ bleeding.
