This information was announced in a statement issued by BRAC University’s Office of Communications.

The statement said that BRAC University and the University of Cambridge in the UK will work together in health, education, human welfare, social inclusion, industrial development and responsible use of technology. The two universities will cooperate with each other in effectively applying research knowledge to society.

Representatives from both universities recently participated in a discussion at the University of Cambridge on this topic. The discussion focused on creating sustainable solutions to real-world problems by combining BRAC University’s experience in working with the public and its innovation capabilities with Cambridge’s research excellence.

One of the goals of this collaboration is to create a streamlined process from discovery to practical application, where rapid testing, transparent learning, and effective implementation will enable the creation of solutions that are sustainable and scalable.

Bangladesh is known as one of the world’s leading examples of social innovation. This collaboration between the two universities will create opportunities for joint research and solution design in a real-world environment, conducted through a Co-Creation Lab. Cambridge has already presented a roadmap to accelerate initial projects, leveraging the strengths and experience of BRAC University.

Priority areas of cooperation include establishing a joint governance structure and setting success criteria for the first phase of pilot projects in education, health, safety, and inclusion.

Present at the meeting from BRAC University were Vice-Chancellor Professor Farhat Anwar; Executive Director of the Institute of Governance and Development Dr. Imran Matin; Registrar Dr. David Dowland; and BRAC Europe Government Relations and Policy Lead Gemma May.

Present from the University of Cambridge were Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Prentice; Head of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care John Danesh; and Director of the Centre for Resilience and Sustainable Development Dr. Nazia Habib.

Former UK Minister The Right Honourable Sir Andrew Mitchell MP joined the discussion directly from the UK House of Commons. He highly praised BRAC’s work and highlighted its global importance.

This collaboration between BRAC University and the University of Cambridge will make a significant contribution to the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

This collaboration will further enrich Bangladesh’s tradition of social innovation, and open new horizons towards equitable sustainable development, by conducting joint innovation and research activities in the areas of health, education, social inclusion, and responsible technology use.
