Genocide: Turkey issues arrest warrant for Netanyahu

Turkey announced on Friday that it has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior officials in his government over alleged genocide in the Palestinian Gaza Strip.

The Istanbul prosecutor’s office has placed 37 Israelis under arrest warrants.

The office did not release a full list, but did name some, including Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gavir and Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, the AFP news agency reported.

Türkiye has accused these Israeli officials of committing systematic genocide and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Ankara’s statement also mentioned the Turkish-Palestinian Hospital in Gaza, which was bombed by Israel in March this year.

Last year, Türkiye became a party to a case filed by South Africa at the International Court of Justice against the Middle Eastern country, accusing it of genocide.

Israel has turned the Gaza Strip into a death camp in the wake of Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel. More than 68,000 Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip in the country’s offensive before a fragile ceasefire was implemented on October 10.
