Ahead of the 13th National Parliament election, BNP has announced candidates for 237 out of 300 seats.
The party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the list at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Monday evening.
He said that BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia will contest the elections from Dinajpur-3, Bogra-7 and Feni-1 constituencies.
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will contest the election from Bogra-6 and the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir from Thakurgaon-1 constituency.
Regarding the seats where candidates have not been announced, Mirza Fakhrul said, “In those seats where candidates have not been announced, candidates will be finalized after discussions with like-minded parties of BNP.”
He further said, “The announced candidate list is not final. The members of the standing committee can make changes to any seat if they deem it necessary and can take decisions through a meeting.”
Earlier, an emergency meeting of the party’s national standing committee was held at the BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan around 12:30 noon.
After that meeting, another meeting was held with the BNP’s divisional organizing secretaries and later the candidate list was announced.
BNP National Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Dr. A. Z. M. Zahid Hossain, Selima Rahman, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Abbas and retired Major Hafiz Uddin Ahmed along with other leaders were present at the press conference.
