The head of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) resigned on Sunday following criticism over the editing of a speech by President Donald Trump.
The BBC reported that the organization’s Director General-DG Tim Davey and Head of News Deborah Turness announced their resignations on Sunday.
The Associated Press-AP reported that the UK’s state broadcaster has come under fire for editing Trump’s speech to protesters before the attack on the Capitol in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021.
Critics say the way the speech was edited for the BBC documentary is misleading.
They allege that a section was edited out where Trump tells his supporters that he wants to see peaceful protests.
In a letter to BBC staff, Davy said that leaving the job after five years was entirely his own decision.
He said he is working with the board to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities to his successor in the coming months.
On the other hand, Turness said that the controversy surrounding the Trump documentary has reached a point where it is damaging the BBC, which he loves. This responsibility falls on him as CEO of BBC News and Current Affairs.
